All Strings Attached

In our built environment, everything is interconnected: the past, present, and future.

Software: Revit, SketchUp, Enscape, Indesign

Fall 23: M. Arch

Supervisor: Rob Peña, Søren Nielsen

This project is located on the east side of Copenhagen’s Foxtail Island. Historically, this island was a shipyard and now reflects the colors and cultures of the people. To preserve the unique character and industrial past, this project studies and explores design strategies to balance between not losing the essence of the building and sustainably transforming spaces for new programs.

Here, the building itself becomes a part of the urban life celebration. With the sunset in the distant backdrop, light emanating both from and within the building, and people joyfully attending a concert in the rain, this once-forgotten structure has now found new life.

A building evolves and changes, along with its programs and contents. The ultimate vision is for the structure to yield to nature, allowing nature's voice to resonate through it. This man-made island, never meant to exist, now serves as an example of restoration, showing how places can coexist with nature through responsive design solutions. Because, in the built environment, the past, present and future is connected.
