Neighborhood Food Bank
A space that serves the needs of the community of Rainier Beach Neighborhood.
The design proposal for the community foodbank with urban farming facilities in Seattle’s Rainer Beach Neighborhood aims to address food scarcity and the lack of dynamic space for social interactions. The 18450 sqft three-story building embraces the concepts of dignity and empathy, transforming a barren area into a vibrant hub for communal gatherings. Accessibility is prioritized as an inclusive design ethos. Also, the project extends the connections with the adjacent affordable housing’s commercial ground floor. The design integrates an efficient water system that maximizes utilization and reuse, along with clean energy sources such as geothermal heat pumps, efficient photovoltaic panels, and passive building techniques. Meticulous analysis and over a hundred simulations have resulted in an impressive 63% reduction in carbon emissions compared to the baseline.
